About the Coalition

Katie Lyons is the Project Manager for Creating Assets, Savings & Hope (CASH) Buffalo. Katie started with CASH as the Community Outreach Coordinator while attending graduate school at the University at Buffalo School of Social Work in September of 2008. In her new role, she is now responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of CASH including committee activity, events and presentations, and community education.

Kathryn Lawton currently serves as CASH’s Community Engagement Coordinator and is an Americorps VISTA Member. She works with CASH’S Financial Education and Economic Supports Committees is involved in the recruitment of CASH members, volunteers, and clients as well as marketing for the free tax preparation network.  Kathryn holds a Bachelor of Arts in History and minor in American Studies from Hobart & William Smith Colleges. Following her year of service, she plans to attend graduate school for history in 2011. 

Brooke MacKenzie is in her second year of graduate study at the University at Buffalo School of Social Work. Brooke has been the CASH liason for Domestic Violence initiatives. She has been working with Haven House and UB's Center for Entreprenurial Leadership on special community events for victims of Domestic Violence. She has also helped create and deliver financial literacy presentations to Haven House clients. Brooke will be with CASH until April and plans to continue working in the community as a Domestic Violence Advocate.

Anna Sisson is currently an advanced standing student at the University at Buffalo Graduate School of Social Work. Anna received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Work and Sociology from Buffalo State College. Aside from her responsiblies with CASH, Anna also works for Autisitic Services, Inc. Anna has been active in both the Asset Building Committee and the newly formed Disability Committee. Anna plans to graduate from UB in May and hopes to continue working in the community, specifically with the disability population.

Alissa Early is also an advanced standing student in the University at Buffalo School of Social Work. She has been instrumental in the continuation of CASH's community education and awareness efforts including the use of the Missouri Community Action Organization's Poverty Simulation here in Erie County. Alissa also played an active role in the planning of CASH's annual tax season kick off event. Alissa hopes to continue to work in the community after finishing her graduate work.
