Volunteer Opportunities

CASH Free Tax Preparation

Each tax season, Creating Assets, Savings & Hope (CASH) Buffalo & Erie County mobilizes volunteers to work as part of the Free Income Tax Preparation Network. Volunteers help hard working low-income people access tax refunds and credits without having to use costly, paid tax preparers.

Over the last three years, the local volunteer network has completed more than 38,000 state and federal returns and brought more than $40 million dollars into our community via tax refunds and credits. As a community volunteer, you have the opportunity to increase these amounts even further, making a considerable impact on those in need of assistance within Buffalo and Erie County.

Volunteers do not need previous experience completing tax returns. CASH Buffalo & Erie County provides all necessary training (including access to required Internal Revenue Service certification programs) at no cost to you. After receiving training and becoming certified, community volunteers are able to prepare federal and state income tax returns for the current tax year.

If you wish to volunteer, but do not want to prepare tax returns, CASH also has a variety of other volunteer roles including greeters, benefits screeners, quality reviewers (requires previous tax experience), or CASH advisors. CASH advisors help families determine program eligibility and provide information on financial education and asset building.

Working with the Free Tax Preparation Network is a great way for you to contribute to our community. CASH would love to add your name to the growing list of supporters that are proudly helping thousands of hard working people take another step towards achieving their financial dreams. Please share information about this volunteer opportunity with your friends, neighbors, and colleagues, and consider participating as a group!
